Marei Family - 1981

Their love for their horses has been a refuge for the  Marei family from one generation to the next.  They have been preserved by the incomparable passion inherent in this family.

Sayed Marei pursued their goal with great enthusiasm, selecting horses of the most desirable pedigrees from the RAS and later EAO, as well as from private breeders.  One of the most influential proved to be the stallion Kayed.  Although beautiful himself, and from the best mare at the EAO, the most important thing about him was that he sired typey horses no matter what mare was used.  Kayed sired 55 foals before his death in 1982.

Dr. Marsafi, Dr. Sayed Marei, and KayedFollowing in his fathers footsteps, Kayed's son Ameer Albadeia, out of *Malekat El Gamal, assumed head sire status, and proved to be a beautiful and consistent as his father, in the breeding shed.  Ameer sired 46 foals, of which 15 were exported to the U.S. before being sold to Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Khaled Al Thani of Qatar for his Al Rayyan Stud.

The building of the Al Badeia broodmare band during the '60's was difficult under the socialist regime.  Dr. Zaher and Dr. Marsafi helped Mr. Marei locate good horses and verify their pedigrees.  In 1959, the lovely mare, Nagdia joined their herd, creating a dynasty of her own, which included Ameer Albadeia, Farida, Farid Albadeia, Malekat El Wadi, Halawat Albadeia, Gawaher Albadeia and more.    Americans will remember the beautiful Nagdia daughter, *Malekat El Gamal, who was imported to the U.S. by Imperial Egyptian Stud.Leading men meet. Many treasured mares came to AL Badeia during the '60's including daughters of famed EAO stallions such as Alaa El Din, El Sareei, Ibn Maisa, and Mashour.

In time, the breeding program passed to the next generation of Marei sons, and especially to Nasr, who had grown up loving the horses and stables with a profound inherent interest in breeding. After achieving his doctorate degree in Agriculture from the University of California , Nasr returned to Al Badeia to take up the reins of his passion, the breeding of superior Arabian horses. Today, Dr. Nasr Marei is not only a superior breeder and advisor, he is also a talented equine photographer, and is sought after as an International Arabian horse Judge.

Dr. Sayed Marei and Ameer Al BadeiaIn 1985, Sayed, Nasr and Hassan Marei joined together with others to organize the private breeders, in what was to become The Egyptian Arabian Breeders Association, which is active today.

Major breeding programs continue to utilize the blood of Al Badeia, with 101 horses being exported to the U.S. and 36 to Europe and the Middle East, many who have gone on to become important National Champions or the sire and dam of National Champions.  Al Badeia has been, and continues to be an important factor in the Egyptian Arabian horse, worldwide.
